Индекс Никкей является взвешенным по ценам индексом акций 225 японских компаний, на которые приходится 19 % эмиссий первых подразделений фондовых бирж Японии и примерно 51 % стоимости рынка. Он был впервые реструктурирован в конце 1991 г. финансовой газетной группой Никон Кейзай Симбун, пересчитавшей его, с тем чтобы уменьшить воздействие на индекс операций, связанных с фьючерсными сделками (Никкей - сокращенное название газетной группы). Индекс Никкей является взвешенным по ценам индексом акций 225 японских компаний, на которые приходится 19 % эмиссий первых подразделений фондовых бирж Японии и примерно 51 % стоимости рынка. Он был впервые реструктурирован в конце 1991 г. финансовой газетной группой Никон Кейзай Симбун, пересчитавшей его, с тем чтобы уменьшить воздействие на индекс операций, связанных с фьючерсными сделками (Никкей - сокращенное название газетной группы). Сейчас включение в группу пересматривается ежегодно; до шести входящих в нее компаний, если их акции перестали быть ликвидными или представительными, могут быть замены другими. Прежде изменения в составе индекса происходили только в случае поглощения или ликвидации компаний.
